Who Is This?

In creating my Inspiration Boards for Hunter, the sequel to Swamp Ghosts, I have been looking high and low for a someone who looks the way I picture Hunter Painter looking. After a time-consuming and exhausting search through THOUSANDS of pictures of good looking men…oh, the things we suffer for our art!…I found ONE photo that looks like Hunter would have looked in his earlier years. (He’s 34 at the start of this book, so would have a tiny bit more wear and tear on his face…maybe). There was no identification on this image at all, and I’m afraid I don’t recognize this man. If he’s an actor or model, someone must surely know his name, right? And I’d like to find a few more photos of him, so I’m putting it to you guys. Can you help? Who is this?

#SwampGhosts Excerpt #4

T9small

Lest you think Swamp Ghosts is a grim, dark book, I thought I’d share a few lighter moments. Yes, the book does have grim, dark scenes scattered here and there, but overall, it’s a love story, with plenty of humorous moments.

Swamp Ghosts Chapter 5 Excerpt

SUNDAY MORNING arrived looking like a picture out of a travel brochure. A buttery yellow sun beamed down from a cloudless swath of blue sky, and the trees along the river were that jewel-like shade of green you only see in early summer.
I watched Gunn as he surveyed the boat launch. “You sure you don’t want to do a dry run on land first?”

“Maggie, I’d feel silly standing over there under a tree, getting in and out of the canoe, instead of just launching it here, like anyone else. I’m sure I can do this.”
“Okay, Thor. Your funeral,” I muttered.
Gunn’s eyes widened. “Excuse me? Thor? Did you just call me Thor?” Read more…

Call For Beta Readers

Going back to the mountains again, as I start working on the sequel to Wake-Robin Ridge, and I’m looking for beta readers once more. I would like to have a few more this time around, so if you are interested in doing something like this, please email me. Contact info at the top of this page. I do this a little bit differently from many authors, so I would need to explain how it all works.

If you’d like to be in on the process of taking an idea and turning it into a finished publication, I’d love to hear from you. I think most of my Beta readers have enjoyed the journey, and the knowledge that their comments and support have helped shape the finished project. Would LOVE to talk to you about how it works. Email me for all the data.

And for those who’ve read Wake-Robin Ridge, this is your chance to find out what’s going on with Sarah & Mac before anyone else. 😀 Hint…odd things are happening in Darcy’s Corner, North Carolina. I’ll be waiting to hear from you.

Time for a bit more creepy with this one. Hope it makes you shiver. A bit.  🙂

Swamp Ghosts Chapter 4 Excerpt

THE ROOM WAS lit only by two small nightlights on each side of the dirty mattress. He liked it dark, knowing it would add an extra element of fear. There needed to be just enough light for him to see the terror in the eyes of his latest…guest…or it wouldn’t be nearly enough fun. Leaving the rest of the room shrouded in darkness was exactly the type of horror movie effect he wanted to achieve.
He’d been gone several hours, and now the girl was lying on her side, curled into a protective ball–as if those pale little arms wrapped around her body could save her from him. He stood there contemplating various ways to wake her up, each guaranteed to bring her screaming into consciousness as she struggled against the restraints. Read more…

Swamp Ghosts Excerpt #2

SH2small

Maggie Devlin owns an eco-tour boat on the St. Johns River. Billy Truitt is her unofficial first mate and mechanic. They have just finished their last tour of the day, and are about to head home.

Swamp Ghosts Chapter 3 Excerpt

A man was walking down the floating pier, reading the name of each boat he approached. A really big man. Big enough that his weight caused the pier to bob up and down, which seemed to worry him, if his frown was anything to go by. Billy and I watched his cautious approach with curiosity. The tours were over for the day, and he just didn’t look like he belonged here at the marina. When he spotted my boat, he smiled and picked up his pace, causing the floating pier to dip sharply. He lurched to a stop in front of us. Read more…

Wake-Robin Ridge: A Darcy’s Corner Novel

Spring Is In The Air!

3896336410_cf3dc09a92

Actually, down here in central Florida, we’ve already had some days in the low 80’s, so you could say summer is in the air, too. But today is a cool, upper-60’s kind of day, so I’m calling it spring. The migrating goldfinches have shown up at my feeder, where they will consume vast quantities of thistle seed before molting into their bright yellow breeding plumage, and heading farther north to nest. Cardinals are already building this year’s homes, and I’ve even seen a black racer or two, venturing out to bask in the sunlight.

And on other exciting fronts, I have finally finished my second novel, Swamp Ghosts, and it is in full edit, as I type. You might notice the header has changed to something appropriate for this news. 🙂

I love the editing process, through and through. Revising, cutting, sharpening, looking for better ways to say the same thing, or cleaner prose, or a funnier tidbit to insert. To me, it’s the icing on the cake, and the best part of writing. Hopefully, this book will be published by May 1. I’ll keep you posted on that.

And lastly, maybe the most fun of all, I have a bit more time to read again! I’ve missed it more than you can imagine, and I have some books to review, starting this very afternoon. Just finished Chloe Neill’s latest Chicagoland novel, for one, and a few other things I want to share with you. So stay tuned, folks. Things should be picking up here a bit more each day. Until I start novel #3, that is, and I’m already outlining it. 🙂

Nothing Like A Day At The Beach To Make A Guy Happy!

Just wanted to touch base and let you guys know I’m home again, after a wonderful trip, and I’ll be catching up here soon. Got a couple of new reviews to put up, but I have developed a complication from my cataract surgery that might keep me from spending quite as much time on the computer as I’d like. Will know more on that in a day or so.

In the meantime, I just want to thank everyone who participated in the free promo of Wake-Robin Ridge. Thanks to you guys, there were nearly 2,000 downloads of my book, and I’m pleased as can be. Hope some folks will enjoy it enough to leave a few more good reviews. Stay tuned to see what’s free on Monday’s Lunchtime Giveaway!

And just so you know, Destin, Florida has some of the state’s most absolutely beautiful beaches, sunsets…and GRANDBABIES! I’m just sayin’……………..

😀

Decided to run a free promo on my novel, Wake-Robin Ridge, while I’m out of town this week. If you didn’t download it before, now’s your chance! Go ahead and check it out. It’s free. What have you got to lose? 😀 And if you enjoy it, please consider leaving a review for me on amazon, to help the book move up in the ranks so people can find it more easily.

I’ll be back in a couple of days, after I get as much Granny-lovin’ in as possible on my little grandson. Hold down the fort while I’m gone, will ya? 😉 And remember, tell all your friends, WRR is free tomorrow and Tuesday, all day long each day!

Happy reading!

FREE-ky Friday!

FREE TODAY!

WRRcover1sm

I have decided that Friday’s need to be more than just “What Are You Reading?” Days.  My plan is to have some sort of weekly promotion or giveaway or contest, though I may have to figure out the details as I go. But to start with, for today only, the first five people to email me will receive a free download of my book, Wake-Robin Ridge. If you like romantic suspense, with not one, but two, very different love stories, a decades old murder mystery, and the triumph of good over evil, let me know, and I’ll send you a free download of my book. Just click on the Contact Me button at the top of this page, and let me hear from you. If you are one of the first five responders, you can have Wake-Robin Ridge on your Kindle, iPad, smartphone or computer today. Did I mention Free? How can you go wrong?

Wake-Robin Ridge

Promo Is Over

Thanks again to everyone who downloaded my book, Wake-Robin Ridge, during yesterday’s Free Promotional. Because of you guys, I had 855 total downloads for the day, including 77 in U.K., 13 in Denmark, 2 in France, 2 in Italy, 2 in Japan, 3 in India, and 11 in Canada! Wow! That is some amazing stuff! Now, I’m sure there are many authors out there who have surpassed these numbers by far, but to me, thinking the someone in India is reading about my Sarah Gray and MacKenzie Cole is just mind-boggling. I’m so stoked!

My heartfelt appreciation and love goes out to every single person who downloaded a copy, told a friend about the book, posted on their Facebook page, Tweeted, emailed, or posted a review on amazon. This book was a labor of love, and I hope that at least some  readers will enjoy it. I’m hard at work on my next one, and just finishing up my poetry book. I’ll let you guys know when those are available, but in the meantime, back to your originally scheduled programming! (And I’m heading to the Comfy Chair to finish my next book for review.)

Hugs to ALL!

Bookin’ It News!

bigbook1_e0

Good morning, Fellow Book Lovers! Just wanted to touch base quickly on two bits of news, both related to my new novel, Wake-Robin Ridge. Then it’s back to business as usual, with two new book reviews I hope to get up today.

First, if you purchased an early copy of Wake-Robin Ridge, you might find some typos that seem to have been generated by Book Gremlins during the upload process to Kindle. I think they slipped into my library in the dead of night and made nasty changes to punctuation and a few other things, while I slept innocently, dreaming only of my immense satisfaction of having finally finished the book. I’m sure–sure, I tell you–that those errors didn’t come from me! No, no. I won’t have that! At any rate, gremlins or no, I just want to let you purchasers who downloaded before 9/2/13  know you are entitled to a free, corrected update, and I definitely want to see that you get one. Stay tuned to this blog to find out more on that. Or email me privately, if you wish.

For those who haven’t downloaded the book yet, (notice I say “yet” … :D) it has been re-proofed, and I think it’s looking pretty good now. You should be safe! Download away!

The second bit of news is that I’m going to establish a separate page here on this blog for “Author News” on Wake-Robin Ridge, Summer Magic, and any other writing I publish in the months ahead, for those who want to track give-aways, news on new releases, and other things related to the writing part of my life now.  That way, I can keep the original part of this blog set up for those who are more interested in book reviews, and yet still have a way of sharing writing milestones with you.

Hope this will work out well for everyone. More as things take shape! Now, as you were, folks. Back to your Labor Day Weekend. Hope it’s a good one!
