My Rating: 5 of 5 Very Hot Stars

Let me get it out of the way right up front. I’m not a fan of this cover. I’m not a fan of many of the covers in this series, I’m afraid. No insult intended, and I’m sure many readers love them, but to me, none of them have conveyed the “feel” of the books, and all of them have made our heroine, Merit, look so much less than she is. This is a personal opinion, only, but I doubt that I would ever pick up a single one of the books based on the cover. Thank goodness I didn’t have to. I got hooked on the Chicagoland Vampires series on my black and white Kindle, and it almost never opens with the cover, but instead, jumps right to the story. Read more…

Wild Things by Chloe Neill

wildthingsMy Rating: 5 of 5 Stars

Someday I should take a moment and explain my rating system. I’m sure it perplexes some of my readers from time to time when I give their favorite novels only 3 or 4 stars. Sometimes I even give critically acclaimed works with real redeeming social value only 3 or 4 stars, as well. And yet, I’m going to give Chloe Neill’s latest Chicagoland Vampires book a solid 5 stars. How can that be, you may wonder. Simple. Read more…

Spring Is In The Air!

3896336410_cf3dc09a92

Actually, down here in central Florida, we’ve already had some days in the low 80’s, so you could say summer is in the air, too. But today is a cool, upper-60’s kind of day, so I’m calling it spring. The migrating goldfinches have shown up at my feeder, where they will consume vast quantities of thistle seed before molting into their bright yellow breeding plumage, and heading farther north to nest. Cardinals are already building this year’s homes, and I’ve even seen a black racer or two, venturing out to bask in the sunlight.ย

And on other exciting fronts, I have finally finished my second novel, Swamp Ghosts, and it is in full edit, as I type. You might notice the header has changed to something appropriate for this news. ๐Ÿ™‚

I love the editing process, through and through. Revising, cutting, sharpening, looking for better ways to say the same thing, or cleaner prose, or a funnier tidbit to insert. To me, it’s the icing on the cake, and the best part of writing. Hopefully, this book will be published by May 1. I’ll keep you posted on that.

And lastly, maybe the most fun of all, I have a bit more time to read again! I’ve missed it more than you can imagine, and I have some books to review, starting this very afternoon. Just finished Chloe Neill’s latest Chicagoland novel, for one, and a few other things I want to share with you. So stay tuned, folks. Things should be picking up here a bit more each day. Until I start novel #3, that is, and I’m already outlining it. ๐Ÿ™‚

Biting Bad by Chloe Neill

My Rating: 4 of 5 Stars

Chloe Neill’s Chicagoland Vampires series has had me hooked from book one. I like our heroine, Merit, and think she does fewer really dumb things than many female leading characters. Now and then, I want to knock her up beside the head, but mostly, Read more…

It’s “What Are You Reading Time” Again!

kid-reading-book

Yet another Friday has rolled around. Strange how that happens, isn’t it? Almost like the calendar was planned that way! ๐Ÿ˜‰ ย And we here at Bookin’ It (I’m using the Literary “We”, of course), want to know what you are reading this week. Tell, tell! How else am I supposed to keep my To Be Read list at the current level, which is somewhere between “An Awful Lot of Books” and “An Amount of Books Impossible to Be Read In A Dozen Lifetimes?”

I am just getting started on the latest in the Chicagoland Vampires series, Biting Bad, a series I have been following since the beginning. I have to say this book isn’t grabbing me as quickly as some in the series have done, probably because there is an awful lot of Mallory in the first few chapters. I don’t know about you other fans of Chicagoland, but I do not like Mallory. Never have. Probably never will. No matter how hard Chloe Neill tries to make her likable, forgivable, or even interesting (I’m over the blue hair, btw), she just doesn’t work for me. Luckily, there’s Merit who is forgivable, even when she’s being a dope, and Ethan, who can do no wrong in my book. Or Chloe Neill’s book, if I’m being accurate, here. Ethan Sullivan is one of my favorite vampity guys, in a world filled with a veritable GLUT of them to choose from. He stands out in the fangy crowd, to me, and thus I will finish the book, even if I have to read about the infinitely whiny Mallory, blecch. Merit and her Liege are worth it.

So, what are YOU reading that I need to know about? My last 2 books reviewed, Dead Iron and Libriomancer, were suggested to me by a fellow blogger, so I’m interested in knowing what your bookmark is resting in today! Share, please! And happy reading!
