Okay, I ask you…how lucky am I to have a Graphic Design Goddess as my very, very good friend and cohort? No matter what I ask for, she can do it! I’m so tickled with this layout of the cover for my print version of Swamp Ghosts, I can’t tell you! Okay, I CAN tell you. And I am. I’m ecstatic! I’m finishing up the final formatting details on the book today, and then I’ll be uploading to CreateSpace. If all goes well, I could be ordering my proofs in a day or so. Once I approve those, the book will go live on amazon in no time at all. So all you good folks out there who prefer not to read eBooks will have access to it. And for those of you who do just fine with eBooks…well, why wait? Here you go: Swamp Ghosts

Cover Art – An Interesting (And Exciting) Find

John Paul Pfeiffer a/k/a Harry Dresden

Some of you know that I really enjoy good cover art. Sometimes it’s an overall interesting or intriguing design, and sometimes it’s a particular model that catches my eye. For nearly two years, I’ve been Googling around trying to find the model Read more…

Nothing feels better than ordering new books, except actually receiving them, of course.  But the anticipation of  knowing I have a box coming from amazon.com is one of the best feelings, ever!  And I’ve been looking forward to the release dates of these books for a long time, too.  All five of them!  What has me so excited, you may ask?  I’ll tell you.  In fact, I’ll tell you, even if you don’t ask!  I have to share my excitement with someone!

The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff

MY RATING:  3 of 5 Stars

A deliciously creepy little story, easily read in one night, and filled with a more interesting than usual array of sympathetic characters. A weird variation on Read more…

Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen

MY RATING:  5 of 5 Stars

Hmmm.   Musing, here.  Where should I shelve this beautiful book?  A tricky question.   It’s a love story without being a Romance.  It’s poetry without the rhymes.  It’s a fantasy without a single vampire, werewolf, faery, or dragon.  I guess I should just shelve it under “Books I Will Treasure Forever.”  The writing is Read more…

My Favorite Cover Art

Seanan McGuire's One Salt Sea Cover

I don’t know about you, but I purely LOVE cover art.  It can make all the difference in the world, when the artist gets it right.  And getting it right must surely be tricky. The cover needs to catch the eye, so the book stands out  from all the other books on the shelf.  It should also give you a sense of what the book is about.  Capture the mood.   Display a reasonable portrait of the main character, as described by the book’s author.  Possibly add some little hints of surprises that might be in store for the reader.  But most of all, for me, it should be drop dead gorgeous.

My favorite cover artist, hands down, is Read more…

Quote #7 – Sarah Addison Allen

“Claire had added flowers to the garden to give her something to do at night when she was so wound up that frustration singed the edge of her nightgown and she set tiny fires with her fingertips.”
