December 8: Top Ten New-To-Me Favorite Authors I Read For The First Time In 2015.

In most of these cases, that means I only have one book by them under my belt, but I’d read another… as soon as they publish it/ I have time.

karen memory

1. Elizabeth Bear. I read and loved Karen Memory, and I’d love to see some more of Bear’s characters.

house shattered wings

2. Aliette de Bodard. The House of Shattered Wings was an experience–angels in a whole different light. What else could that mind dream up?

book of harold

3. Owen Egerton. I bought two of his books at an event, and finally got around to reading them this year. A great example of dark humor.

dont fail me now

4. Una LaMarche. Don’t Fail Me Now is one of those books that flips a switch between sad and funny, and the characters felt real. I admire that skill.

DeBary Hall Historic Site, 198 Sunrise Blvd., will host a free “Meet the Authors” event from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12.  Five Central Florida authors will discuss, sign and sell their works in the site’s 19th century hunting lodge.

Participating authors will include:

BILL BELLEVILLE: A Maryland native specializing in nature and conservation. He has written seven creative nonfiction books, including River of Lakes: A Journey on Florida’s St. Johns River and Losing it All to Sprawl. He also has contributed to nine national anthologies and authored more than1,000 articles and essays. Belleville has traveled overseas as a writer for the Discovery Channel and scripted documentaries for NPR and PBS.

Just wanted to reassure folks that this book is still showing up listed as free for me, and probably for most here in the U.S. It seems to be screwed up in some other countries, but if you are interested in it, please check it out. As of this morning, it’s still showing free. Yay! (Hope it soon shows up for everyone else, too!)

Excited to announce the release of Pedal

Check out my friend, Louis Lowy’s newest book. It’s currently on sale! Grab it while you can!

The Write Stuff

I’m excited to announce the release of my 2nd novel, Pedal, which examines the life of 49-year-old elementary school music teacher, Joanne Brick, who is fired and struggles to reclaim her life back through bicycle racing.FRONT ONLY_lower res

This uplifting story tells how Joanne—who lives with her bossy older sister, and ailing mother—deals with unemployment, loneliness and loss of self-worth. Pedal is a contemporary family drama based around the theme of daring to change and how ordinary people deal with those changes. (Beyond the Book Store just did a wonderful review of Pedal.)

Great news for all who own a Kindle, Assent Publishing has reduced the e-book price for the next couple of days to only 99 cents! For more info and to purchase, here’s the link: http://tinyurl.com/Pedal-Kindle

Thanks, and I’d be very grateful if you would share.
