E-readers: E-ink vs Back-lit

Amazon-Kindle-Paperwhite-Now-Up-for-Pre-Order-In-Europe

Wondering what the difference is between an e-reader that is back-lit and one that uses e-ink technology? Check out Sharechair’s very simple explanation here:

E-Ink or Backlit Screen? What’s the Difference?

The difference, by the way,  is huge, and can impact how much you enjoy reading e-books. I know for myself that back-lit screens look great, but I can’t read an entire book on a back-lit screen without extreme eye discomfort. Therefore, for me, an e-reader using e-ink technology is by far the best bet.  I’m currently using an older Kindle (the version with the little buttons at the bottom), but I’m longing to get the new Kindle Paperwhite, which combines e-ink technology with a built in book light.  It’s lovely.  Just like reading a print book with a lamp shining on the page.

Sharechair’s blog is a wealth of information on all things technical, and is designed to help us non-techies understand how to do all sorts of fun things.  It’s also a big help when you are in a quandary over which new gadget will work the best for you. When you finish reading the article above, you might want to check through Sharechair’s archives for other helpful information.
