I know! Those hairless babies just lend themselves to jokes. People who own them love them dearly, and I’m sure they’re very sweet, but. You just can’t walk around looking like that and not have people make jokes about you. Or dress you up in Dobby’s hats. 😀

OH Geeze!!! I used to have a Devon Rex – he was an orange and white – what a NUTCASE! This is toooooo cute! The little guy could jump 20 feet in the air, and was always into mischief…..

Yeah, but…but…but THIS guy is NEKKID!!! 😯 Poor thing. Devons have nice, wavy curls. Close fitting, maybe, but still. There’s hair there. This poor baby (probably a sphynx, I’m guessing) is just all downy skin and wrinkles. I hear they give off a lot of heat and are good bed-warmers. But I think I’ll keep my furry guys. 🙂

You know, that’s right! It was a good 20 years ago when I had my Devon, and he DID have curls! Yes, I would have to agree, probably a Sphynx!

I am what my husband calls a Cat and Dog Geek. I love learning about the breeds, and watch dog shows and the like every year. I have stacks of reference books about animals of all kinds, but quite a few of them feature cat and dog breeds. They fascinate me.
I believe there is now another hairless breed of cat, but I don’t remember where I read that or what it’s called, so I’m going with sphynx, here. I think they have faces similar to both Rex breeds, though. And similar expressions.

The Peterbald is one of the more popular ones, then there is the Donskoy, the Elf, and the Dwelft. They are all genetic anomalies, crossed over in both dominant and recessive genes depending upon which cross you are working with. The problem, of course, is that the genes can cause other anomalies, from dentition issues to autoimmune disorders.
From the Persians, who are susceptible to terrible breathing issues to English Bulldogs who are highly susceptible to everything from horrible breathing issues to debilitating spina bifida, our human urge to create the “odd and unusual” is more destructive than productive. . .

Yikes. This is suddenly becoming a serious discussion, when it really started out as just a funny picture. Not so sure how that happened, so I’ll just say for me, the answer lies in choosing responsible breeders known for animals with healthy blood lines. My Persians have been glorious cats, with no breathing problems, who lived long, happy lives, for instance.
And now, back to laughing at this crazy picture.

I do NOT think that you’re an ass! Honest. I just realized this was getting too serious for comments under a silly picture. I respect your opinions, and agree with some of them. There are cases when I think overbreeding has gone, well…overboard. But that’s another topic for another day, maybe. 🙂
I’m sorry you are depressed, and I hope you’ll soon feel better. I’ll post something else funny shortly, just because sometimes we need to laugh on
Friday’s, too. And I’ll check out your link, as well.
Keep smiling.
