What Are You Reading?
Better late than never, I always figure! Time for What Are You Reading, once again. I’m on Book 4 of the droll and amusing Victorian Steampunk series, The Parasol Protectorate. When I finish the last book, #5, I’ll be sad. The books are so funny, I can hardly wait to review this one.
So what are YOU reading? As always, inquiring minds wanna know!
Several things, but most enjoyably “Queen Victoria” by Lytton Strachey.

Hi, Maedez! I haven’t read a biography in a long time. I need more darn hours in the day. This writing stuff is cutting into my reading time, and I’m already about 20 years behind, if my To Be Read lists are anything to go by. I’m glad you are enjoying Queen Victoria. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Have a great weekend!

One of my goals for 2014 is to read more books this year (and I read a goodly amount in 2013) and to write even more. So far, so good. I read a lot of nonfiction, usually by dead writers (no surprise, there). The best ones write with as much subtlety, poetry, and plasticity as great novelists. Strachey is a wonderful study in excellent writing. We owe the modern concept of biography to him, and I just love his books. I’ve moved back to fiction today, though, as I am reading a George Gissing novel. Have a wonderful week!

I wish you good luck on reading more books this year. We need more hours in a day, more days in a week, and more months in a year, if you ask me! I will be checking out Strachey. I used to read a lot of biographies and historical fiction, too, but haven’t lately. It’s this damn obsession with things that go bump in the night!
😀
You have a wonderful week, too! I always look forward to seeing what you have to say.

Still powering through the audiobook of “The Woman In White”, which I’m really enjoying.
We were on vacation last week, so I read three books in six days (talk about vacation!): “Doctor Sleep” by Stephen King (excellent!), “Burning Man” by Alan Russel (pretty good), and “The Sound and the Furry” (excellent!). Just now starting MaddAddam by Margaret Atwood.

Oooh, I’ve been meaning to re-read The Sound & The Fury for a long time. Thanks for the reminder. I’ve given up on King, I’m afraid. I’m sticking to Koontz now. I heard good things about Burning Man, so will add it to my list. And I am not familiar with MaddAddam, so need to look that up. Thanks for stopping by, Steve. Always good to hear from you! And as always, give Penny a pat on the head from her Auntie M in Florida.

Marcia — you give me too much literary credit for reading Faulkner on vacation. “The Sound and the Furry” was not a typo. It’s the latest in the Chet & Bernie mystery series, which I wholeheartedly endorse. 😀

Hahaha. And YOU give ME too much credit for having eyes that work any more. After my disastrous cataract surgery, I’m struggling with myriad problems with my right eye, which is the only one I use. Eeep. I didn’t even pick up on Furry, though I do know you enjoy this series. I’m going to HAVE to try it. BTW…if not on vacation, when you have plenty of time…when WOULD you read Faulkner?
