Bookin' It

So Many Books. So Little Time. Let's Review!

Just got my cover art last night, and I’m thrilled! Seeing it made me realize my lifelong dream is about to come true. I will be publishing the book on Kindle (probably this weekend) and will have a print version on amazon very shortly after, as well. I’m beyond excited. My cover designer (Nicki Forde at Nicki Forde Graphic Design) is the best, bar none, and I’m so thrilled that she was able to take my thoughts and make them reality.

This blog will NOT become all about my book, believe me. Reviewing the works of other authors will still remain the focus. But I just had to share this news, and show off the cover of Wake-Robin Ridge. For those who don’t know, a wake-robin is a trillium that blooms in spring in the eastern part of the country. It’s blood red, instead of the white of most varieties of trillium, and one of my favorite mountain wildflowers. And yes, that is a wake-robin in the lower right corner of the book cover.

I will post updates from time to time, about the publication of Wake-Robin Ridge, and any special sales promotions, but as I say, the focus of this blog won’t change. In fact, I’m halfway finished reading a very good book right now, and I can’t wait to share my thoughts on it. Hopefully, my time will be a little easier to manage once I get this book up and running. I’ve missed my blogs a lot!

  1. How fantastic, well done! What is your book about? Can you give us a little description?

  2. Hi, MMMMM!

I’ll probably post the entire cover blurb at some point, but for now, I’ll just say it’s a story centering on a small cabin on Wake-Robin Ridge (a fictional spot near Lake Lure & Chimney Rock, North Carolina). It tells the story of two women who lived alone in the cabin, 50 years apart. The current owner uncovers a pretty startling mystery that happened to the first woman. And she has some help putting the story together from an enigmatic (but very good looking, of course) and reclusive neighbor. Basically, it’s a character-driven romantic suspense, as opposed to a high-concept, high-action book, though it does have some pretty dramatic (and hopefully, scary) moments. Hope that intrigues you!

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I’m pretty stoked today, as I’m sure you can tell.

  3. Congratulations, Marcia. I wish you much success.

    • Thank you, Felix. Just getting it written and published means I succeeded at what I started out to do, but it would be great if some readers enjoy it, too. That would really be the icing on the cake. So nice to see you here! Come by more often, my friend.

  4. The cover is fantastic. Congratulations on your book – I can’t wait to read it. It sounds like something that I will enjoy. Mystery, romance and suspense sounds good to me!

    • Hi, Patty! I’m so glad you like the cover. I’m pretty happy with it, myself. I will be posting here as soon as it goes “live” on Kindle, and there will be a paperback a few weeks after that, if all goes well. If you don’t have a Kindle, you can still read the eBook on your iPad, iPhone, or on your regular ol’ computer, via Kindle apps for any of those devices. The apps are free.

Funny, I thought of you when I was looking for Beta readers. I thought it might be something you would like.

I’ve been working hard all weekend on the final formatting. It’s trickier than you might think, if you want to “gussy” up your chapters with titles and the like. Plus I’ll have some bonus material in from my little poetry book that’s coming out this fall. Poetry does not want to play by the rules. It refuses to stay in the lines!:D

Thanks for stopping by, and keep an eye out for an update, as soon as I get it uploaded to Kindle.

  5. Congratulations! Great looking cover!

    • Thanks, Steve! I’m very pleased with how it turned out. I had a great designer! This journey to self-publication has been a real learning experience, and very rewarding, so far! Good to see you!

    • Thanks, Geraldine. It was a thrilling day when I first saw my cover, I can tell you! I’m so blessed to have a best friend who’s a graphic artist! She rocks!! Glad you liked the book, too.
