Still working on the Parasol Protectorate series, and happily, still enjoying it very much. Book 4, Heartless, shakes things up a bit with a change in the status of the werewolves and their abode, and likewise, with the “hive” of Vampires. (A totally unexpected twist, for me.) And of course, the family situations change a great deal, too, from Alexia’s relationship Read more…
My Ratings for Each Book: 4 of 5 Stars
I am still having great fun with this series. Gail Carriger has managed to make this crazy world totally believable, and completely enjoyable. This is a Victorian steampunk sort of adventure, but not like any others I’ve read. Oh, there are dirigibles, to be sure. I’m guessing you can’t write steampunk without them. And there are odd little Read more…

Just realized it’s Friday again! Where did this week go? Oh, yeah. It was Christmas! That explains it! Don’t know if any of you have time for reading right now, but I thought I would ask. I was in the first 1/3 of Changeless from the Parasol Protectorate series when I realized it was Book TWO! Now I’m starting over on Soulless, the first one. A very amusing, steampunk/urban fantasy kind of series. Will review it when I’m done.
So what are YOU reading this week? Or are you “resting your eyes” until after the holidays?
My Rating: 5 of 5 Stars
Cold Copper was one of those books you just hate to see end! I mean it. I did not want to put it down. There’s so much more to come from this story, and yet, no information to be found on how long I’ll have to wait for Book 4 in this fantastic steampunk series. That makes me sad. I love Read more…

Another 5-star Roller Coaster Ride from Devon Monk! Is Tin Swift great literature? Nah. But is it a whole lotta fun, written well, developed well, and filled with excitement, cover to cover? Yep! If anything, Tin Swift is even better than the first book of this series, Dead Iron, so it gets a full 5 stars from me for pure entertainment value.
Again, the setting is an alternate steampunk version of America and the westward expansion, as it never was, of course, but Read more…

I’ve only started reading steampunk in the last two years or so, but hands down, this is my favorite book in the genre, so far. Written with far more intelligence than most, Dead Iron is filled with characters who pull you in, a plot that is Read more…
My Rating: 5 of 5 Stars and A Lot of Romantic Swooning
Let me get it out of the way up front: This series made me “squeeeeeeeeee” like a fifteen-year old fangirl! I admit it. I’m a hopeless romantic, and a growing fan of steampunk, and the series worked for me on every level. It was crazy good, for what it is. Is it “Great Literature?” Probably not. Do I care? Definitely not. Why? Because I was pulled into the world from the very first book, Clockwork Angel, and wasn’t sent back to the merely mundane (pun intended) world until the last page of the last book, Clockwork Princess. And frankly, I really didn’t want to return to reality at all. I wanted the story to go on and on and on, kinda like the theme song from Titanic! Read more…

The Kingmakers is the 3rd and final installment of the Vampire Empire trilogy. I have read many glowing, nearly rhapsodic, reviews of this book, but for me, it was definitely the weakest of the three. I really enjoyed the first book, The Greyfriar, Vampire Empire Book 1. It was my first introduction into a steam punk world of Read more…
