Monday Giveaway!

10626594

The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

Today starts one of my new features…Monday Giveaway Day! Be sure to make a note. Every Monday, I will give away a free download (or maybe more) of one of my favorite books. There will be many genres over the weeks ahead, so you’re sure to find something you’d like.

Today, I am giving away one that I dearly love by Maggie Stiefvater, Scorpio Races. It is a re-imagining of the Celtic water horse myth, told as only Stiefvater can. Scorpio Races is listed as a YA book, but trust me on this. It works for adults, too. The writing is lovely, the characters, touching and poignant, and the water horses…capaill uisce…are terrifying and beautiful at the same time.

A favorite quote of mine:

I don’t look away from Puck. “I think you assume too much, Dory Maud.”
“You leave nothing to assumption,” Dory Maud says. “You swallow her with your eyes. I’m surprised there’s any of her left for the rest of us to see.”

I know some of you would love this book as much as I do, so here’s what you do to win a free download for your Kindle: email me and ASK. That’s it. The first person to email me at mmeara@cfl.rr.com AFTER 3:00PM EST will win a copy. (I want to give folks on the west coast a chance, too, hence setting the time a bit later in the day.)

So…make a note. Set your timer. And email me after 3:00PM Eastern Standard Time. Be first, and you win. Be second…and you MIGHT win, too. I’ll think about it! 😀 😀 😀

Promo Done!

claude_nancy_van_house2

My Swamp Ghosts promo is over, and what a ride it was. I had so much fun, watching my rating climb all day. And you guys downloaded a TON of copies, too. I hope everyone who reads it will enjoy this novel, and, if so, will remember to leave a positive review on Amazon and Goodreads. Those reviews are what sell our books, and the reason we don’t mind giving away hundreds (or in this case, thousands) of them. So, read on! And enjoy!! And thank you so much for downloading Swamp Ghosts. Have fun on the river! 🙂

Book Promo Doing Great So Far!

No. 16

Thanks to everyone who has downloaded a free copy of Swamp Ghosts today! Because of you, my book is now #16 in both of the categories I’m listed in. Yep, I’ve reached the top 100 Free Books in each one. I’m very happy with that, and can’t wait to see what happens over the next 30-some hours. It could get even better! That would be sweet!

Swamp Ghosts FREE Today & Tomorrow Only!

cover2at30%

Free Today & Tomorrow Only!

Download your copy today! Swamp Ghosts is free Monday & Tuesday, May 12 and 13, only, so head right on over to amazon.com, and download your free copy today. Read about Maggie & Gunn’s adventures on the rivers of central Florida, hunting the rarest of the rare, and never dreaming they are being hunted, themselves, by a predator more dangerous than anything that lives in the swamp.

5 Stars: A beguiling tale of love and murder on the St. John’s River. Like her first book, Wake Robin Ridge, Swamp Ghosts is a well-written love story, mixed with suspense. Marcia Meara has a way with words. That’s true whether she’s introducing her characters, describing the lovely setting in which the love story unfolds, or plotting mayhem. Languid descriptions of Meara’s gorgeous protagonist, Maggie Devlin, and her hunky paramour, Gunnar Wolfe, stand in stark contrast to the malevolent forces aligning against them. “

5 Stars: “Great for your summer reading list. I wish I could give it 10 stars! You will not want to put Swamp Ghosts down, it will keep you on the edge of your seat and will keep you guessing.”

5 Stars: ” The main characters are believable and the chemistry between the two is incredible. I highly recommend this book. “

Coming Up on Bookin’ It

333403-1280x800

One of the best things about wrapping up Swamp Ghosts is knowing I’ll have more time for my blogs. I’ve really missed being able to post here daily, or at least several times a week, and I’m hoping I never find myself in that position again. (Which means, of course, I’ll have to be a lot better about managing my time while I’m writing the sequel to Wake-Robin Ridge. I’ll be starting that in the next day or two, so we’ll see how fast I can learn to juggle.)

I have some fun things in store for Bookin’ It, and I hope you’ll enjoy them all. On Mondays I plan to run giveaways.  On Wednesdays, Author Interviews. (I have five lined up already.) Fridays will remain What Are You Reading days, and I’m hoping to do a Blogger of the Week thing on Sundays. Tuesdays and Thursdays will be flexible, and every day is Review Day, when I have them ready to go.

Since I’m just getting this started, this week will be a little bit off the planned schedule, but that’s okay, because there are still going to be some fun things happening. Be SURE to check in on Friday of this week, when I’ll be participating in the #mywritingprocess Blog Tour. Not only will you learn a bit about my own writing process, but you’ll meet three authors who will be doing the tour next week. This was a really fun thing to take part in, and I hope you’ll enjoy my post on Friday.

I’m also going to be posting excerpts from Swamp Ghosts throughout the week, just to whet your appetites. Stay tuned for those, as well.  Let’s get things going around here, again, whaddya say? FUN…that’s what we want, right?

Have a great day, everyone.

Extending Giveaway One More Day!

3896336410_cf3dc09a92

In keeping with my new weekly schedule, I’m making Monday my day for giveaways and freebies. (Is there a difference? Probably not, but I like both words, so I’m using them. 🙂 ) And I’m extending my offer of a free download of Swamp Ghosts to five more people. Email me today (contact info above, in Menu) and I’ll send you an amazon gift of one download. Grab it while you can! You’ll love the adventure! And keep an eye open for an excerpt to be posted shortly, just to whet your appetite.

Have a great Moon’s Day, everyone!

File This Under “What Was I Thinking?”

kindlevsbooks

Okay. I admit it. I’m addicted to books. I’m addicted to reading books. I’m addicted to piling them all over my shelves, and stopping by them now and then just to pet the covers. But mostly, I am addicted to downloading Kindle books. Constantly. Especially FREE Kindle books. I have lots and lots of them waiting to be read. And by lots, I mean well over 350 of them. GAH. If I live to be 125, which is what I’m aiming for, I’ll never finish reading them all!

Add to that, the fact that I’ve got at least five books I’ve promised to read and review waiting for me, and oh, yeah…I’m writing a second novel, myself, which is a Time Suck of astronomical proportions. Where, oh where, in all of this, have I left myself time to LIVE MY LIFE?? I really don’t know. But I can’t think about it right now…the latest BookGorilla email just arrived. Free books are calling me! Later, boys and girls!

Thank You!

WOW! Thank you so much to the 1,969 good folks who downloaded copies of Wake-Robin Ridge yesterday. I’m very happy with how that free promotion turned out, and I hope each of you enjoys the book. If so, I also hope you’ll remember to leave a kind review on Amazon. That’s what helps move the book up through the listings so it’s easier for shoppers to find. I’d really appreciate it. Reviews are more important than you can imagine.

Again, thank you to everyone who grabbed a copy while they were free. Hope you’ll also tell your friends and family. And make a mental note that I’m nearly finished with my second novel, Swamp Ghosts, and soon it will be available for download, as well. Book #3 will revisit Darcy’s Corner, and for those who have been asking, yes, Sarah & Mac will be featured in a completely new story.

Happy New Year to all of you, and thanks for making mine so special!

A Word On Free Books

kindlevsbooksEver wonder why an author would willingly give away hundreds of copies of his or her hard work for free? (And trust me on this…writing IS hard work.) The answer is simple: word of mouth. The more people that have read a book, the more it gets talked about. And the more it gets talked about, the more it gets sold,  and then the author can afford to stay at home and write another book. This is why you see Read more…

Book Gorilla

Whaddya Mean That Book Is FREE This Week?

It’s a little known fact that gorillas really hate to pay full price for anything, especially books. No, really. This is true. I swear. Honest. Okay, doubtful, at best. But if YOU hate to pay full price for books, and love finding FREE ones even more, why aren’t you subscribing to BookGorilla? There are several email services out there that will alert you to the best book bargains of the day, but BookGorilla is by far, my favorite. Takes me 5 minutes or less to scan through the day’s offerings and see if there is anything I’m interested in. Then I click on it, check the reviews on Amazon, and grab the ones I want. I have found tons of good stuff that way.

If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, just go to BookGorilla.com and sign up. You can select the genres that you enjoy, and then just sit back and watch the daily bargains roll in. And don’t worry. You can unsub at any time, so give it a go. Bet you’ll find some great deals. Have fun!

Monday Lunchtime Giveaway!

Many of you know I’ve been spending most of my days lately at the hospital with my mother, who took a bad fall over three weeks ago. I’m happy to say she has returned to her own room at the nursing home where she lives and has so many friends. She is stable, and I am able to start catching up with my blogs once again, though it might take a while. I’m way, way behind. But I wanted to get back on track with my Monday Lunchtime Giveaways, so here is today’s offer:

2 Free Downloads of Sarah Addison Allen’s Garden Spells. This is one of my favorite books. The writing is lyrical and the story line, pure magic. If you’d like to have a free download, just email me via the Contact Me button at the top of the page. The first two responders will be gifted a copy of the book.

5 Free Downloads of my novel, Wake-Robin Ridge. If  romantic suspense with a spooky twist, set in the Blue Ridge mountains sounds interesting to you, you might want to give this a try. Email me, and I’ll gift you a copy.

5 Free Downloads of Summer Magic, my chapbook of poems about Life and Love, and featuring several poems about MacKenzie Cole (the main male character in Wake-Robin Ridge) as a ten-year old boy.

I will let this offer run an extra day because I’m getting it posted late, but if you want to try any of these books, let me know quickly, to be sure you don’t miss out.

Hope you are all having a wonderful Moon’s Day! It feels great to be back!!

Summer Magic FREE Today!

Summer Magic_

Got up a bit late this morning, sorry! But for those who may have missed the earlier post, my book of poetry, Summer Magic, is free today, tomorrow and Monday. Hope some of you will take this opportunity to download it. Nothing to lose, right? And you may discover it is something you enjoy. If so, hope you’ll consider leaving a positive review on amazon. Thanks!

Long Days of Reading…It Could Be Worse!

reading_baby_small

Having spent the last eight days alone in a hospital room, listening to the steady beep, beep, beep of the heart monitor, while waiting for my mother to have her surgery, then wake up again (which she didn’t do for four pretty scary days afterward!), I have found a lot of time to read, as you might imagine. I finished the latest World of the Lupi book, Ritual Magic, which was fantastic, and which I will be reviewing as soon as I catch my breath. And I’m re-reading one of my favorite Urban Fantasy books, Bayou Moon, by Ilona Andrews. It is Book 2 of their On The Edge series, and it is just as good this time around as it was the first. I’m remembering with every page why I fell in love with William Wolf and why he will always be one of my favorite characters in the genre. Maybe in any genre. He’s brilliantly done.

I will post a reminder tomorrow about my free promo for my own book, Summer Magic, and will get back in the swing of things here soon, I hope. My mother has taiken a turn for the better in the last two days, and we are all very encouraged about her progress from this point forward. Thanks to everyone who has written or posted, sending well-wishes to her, and to me, with my vision problem. (I’m coping. It’s not changing very much, but I’m learning how to deal with it better.)

Can’t wait for life to be back to something akin to normal again. I’ve missed you guys!!

Summer Magic FREE November 2 Through November 4!

Summer Magic_

Since I have been at the hospital with my mother daily and haven’t been able to post anything new, I thought it would be a good time to run a promo for my chapbook of poems. Summer Magic will be available for free download Saturday, November 2, Sunday, November 3, and Monday, November 4. Hope some of you will check it out. The verses are very special to me, especially those that are about MacKenzie Cole (from Wake-Robin Ridge) as a boy of ten, exploring the fun of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It’s free. You can’t lose! 😀

Serissa by Megan Cundy FREE October 25 Thru October 27

serissa

Just a heads up that Megan Cundy’s Young Adult book, Serissa, will be free Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I know Megan from her blog, and though I haven’t finished reading her book yet, I’m sure I have followers it will appeal to. She has a different take on angels and a story that involves pop music, along with the romance factor. Check it out. Did I mention it’s free?

Monday Lunch Time Giveaway….Late!

Yeah, I know it’s way past lunch time in my part of the world, but in other areas, I might still be in range. Sorry for the delay in today’s giveaway, but as some of you know, I have developed some complications from my cataract surgery and am having vision problems. Between having trouble seeing to work on the computer, and all the visits to my doctor, I’m behind on everything. But I’ll catch up, I promise. And I’m still offering some free downloads of books I love today.  All you have to do is email me with the name of the book you want. It would be a good idea to let me know what your second or third choices would be, too, in case someone beats you to the draw. You can find my email under the Contact Me link at the top of the page. Here are today’s offers:

The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater: I have 2 free downloads available for this. Maggie Stiefvater is a truly gifted and beautiful writer, and of all her books, The Scorpio Races is my favorite. It is a haunting, magical, and dark tale centered around the Celtic legend of the water horse. This is a Young Adult book, but it is NOT young adult writing, believe me. Try it. You’ll be as in love with Stiefvater’s writing as I am. The Scorpio Races is a stand-alone book.

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater:  Okay, so I’m back to Maggie again, but really, any fan of Urban Fantasy, magic, Celtic legends, and beautiful writing should be reading her already. She’s one of the best. This book is completely unique in the way it approaches an odd assortment of characters whose lives become interconnected in unexpected ways. There is another Celtic legend at work in the background here, too, but I’m not going to give away any more than that. I’ve already got the 2nd book in this series waiting in my To Be Read basket, and I can’t wait to get started on it. Book One was utterly captivating. I have 2 downloads available of this book, too.

Killing Floor by Lee Child: The book that started Jack Reacher on his cross-country adventures. For those of you who have not gotten into Reacher’s stories yet, this is the place to begin. One of my favorite series. I have two downloads of this book available as well.

And as always, anyone who’d like some bookmarks from my novel, Wake-Robin Ridge, need only email me with their mailing address, and I’ll send you some, for your own use, or for give-aways to friends and family.

bookmarksmallforemail

So there you have it. I will run today’s offer through tomorrow afternoon, to make up for it being posted so late. Hope you’ll all forgive me, and be sure to tune in again next Monday for another Lunchtime Giveaway.

Back Home Again, And Thank You!

Nothing Like A Day At The Beach To Make A Guy Happy!

Just wanted to touch base and let you guys know I’m home again, after a wonderful trip, and I’ll be catching up here soon. Got a couple of new reviews to put up, but I have developed a complication from my cataract surgery that might keep me from spending quite as much time on the computer as I’d like. Will know more on that in a day or so.

In the meantime, I just want to thank everyone who participated in the free promo of Wake-Robin Ridge. Thanks to you guys, there were nearly 2,000 downloads of my book, and I’m pleased as can be. Hope some folks will enjoy it enough to leave a few more good reviews. Stay tuned to see what’s free on Monday’s Lunchtime Giveaway!

And just so you know, Destin, Florida has some of the state’s most absolutely beautiful beaches, sunsets…and GRANDBABIES! I’m just sayin’……………..

Wake-Robin Ridge Free Monday & Tuesday!

WRRcover1sm

Decided to run a free promo on my novel, Wake-Robin Ridge, while I’m out of town this week. If you didn’t download it before, now’s your chance! It’s a romantic suspense set in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and involves a little cabin and the two women who lived there fifty years apart. Murder and spooky stuff, all built in, too! Go ahead and check it out. It’s free. What have you got to lose? 😀 And if you enjoy it, please consider leaving a review for me on amazon, to help the book move up in the ranks so people can find it more easily.

I’ll be back in a couple of days, after I get as much Granny-lovin’ in as possible on my little grandson. Hold down the fort while I’m gone, will ya? 😉 And remember, tell all your friends, WRR is free tomorrow and Tuesday, all day long each day!

Happy reading!

News On Giveaways…Monday Lunchtime Specials

books1

It was brought to my attention that I should probably schedule my giveaways for the days when my blog is the busiest. Silly me, I never even gave that a thought.

Without a doubt, I get more visitors here on Monday than any other day, so I guess my FREE-ky Friday giveaway will become my Monday Lunchtime Special. Keep an eye out for it, because I will be offering free downloads of some pretty good books in the weeks ahead. All you have to do is email me to win. I will post a reminder on Friday, and again on Sunday, to alert you when one is coming up, so you can mark your calendars and check out my site at noon on Mondays for the details.

Hope you guys enjoy getting an opportunity to win a free book or two. I’m looking forward to picking and choosing what I want to offer, from the latest Urban Fantasies to older best sellers that everyone should read. Whatever strikes my fancy.

Free books…you know you want ’em!
