Swamp Ghosts
Coming to Amazon.com May 1, 2014

Wooohooo. Just got the Kindle version of my Swamp Ghosts cover. Nicki Forde of Nicki Forde Graphic Design does it again! Dark, mysterious, creepy, spooky…all those words come to mind when I look at it. How about you? And don’t forget, the release date for Swamp Ghosts is next Thursday, May 1. I’m so excited, I can hardly stand it!

Still Thinkin’ Autumn!

Corn shocks and Pumpkins

Wow!  I was able to take my cup of Earl Grey and sit on the patio for a half hour this morning.  It’s been months since it was comfortable enough outside for me to be able to do that.  The dogs were playing, the white-winged doves and cardinals were at my bird feeder, and the air didn’t make me feel like I was in a steam bath.  What a change in just one week!  I was so inspired, I came inside and changed my header, yet again.  This scene is from my absolute favorite part of the world, the Blue Ridge Mountains.  I think it’s the Linville Viaduct, though it wasn’t identified anywhere.  Wish I were heading there for a couple of weeks right now, in fact.  And while we are on the subject of headers, as you may have noticed lately, I’ve finally realized how easy it is to change them, so you will probably never know what to expect when you visit this page.  Of course, there will be plenty of cover art on display in that spot, but also seasonal images, and pretty much anything else that strikes my fancy for a day or two.  Hope you enjoy seeing what’s new “at the top” when you visit.

New reviews coming soon, I promise.  Painting my kitchen cabinets slowed my reading down a bit, but I’m workin’ on it.  Have a great fall day, folks!

My Favorite Cover Art

Seanan McGuire's One Salt Sea Cover

I don’t know about you, but I purely LOVE cover art.  It can make all the difference in the world, when the artist gets it right.  And getting it right must surely be tricky. The cover needs to catch the eye, so the book stands out  from all the other books on the shelf.  It should also give you a sense of what the book is about.  Capture the mood.   Display a reasonable portrait of the main character, as described by the book’s author.  Possibly add some little hints of surprises that might be in store for the reader.  But most of all, for me, it should be drop dead gorgeous.

My favorite cover artist, hands down, is Read more…

Welcome To My Library!

Come on in!  You never know what’s going to be happening around here.  Reviews, cover art, author bios, release dates…it’s all fair game at Bookin’ It.  The genres will be widely varied over time, though I’m currently enjoying the glut of decent (and sometimes not so decent) urban fantasy work that’s available.  For many years, that particular section of the bookstore was pretty bare, so it’s fun to read it while it’s hot.  But expect to find reviews on general fiction, best sellers, classics from days gone by, non-fiction, and whatever else catches my attention.  I’ll always be polite, but I won’t pull my punches if I believe a book is poorly written.  The good news is, I like more books than I hate, so the Raves outnumber the Pans.
Now let’s get started!  See you in the stacks!

NOTE:   PLEASE feel free to respond to any reviews, even with differing opinions and ideas.  I welcome all comments.  Just remember to be respectful.  No flaming, no seriously bad language.  A few milder oaths are not a problem, but  I don’t want to worry about younger, more impressionable readers.  I do review a lot of YA Urban Fantasy, so keep it nice.  Thanks!
