What Are You Reading?
A day late, and a dollar short, as they say, but you’ll have to excuse me. A bad back has kept me away from my computer more than I like, so I’m running behind on everything. But another thing they say is, “better late than never,” right? So here’s Friday’s What Are You Reading post. For better or worse. And that’s entirely enough old sayings for one morning. 🙂
I’m well into D. B. Jackson’s 3rd book of the Thieftaker Chronicles, A Plunder of Souls, and enjoying it nearly as much as the first two. I won’t say it is the best urban fantasy ever, but I will say that Jackson’s mixing of real historical characters from the pre-Revolutionary days of early America, is deft, and a great deal of fun. (Not to be confused with “daft,” which is more what I am on any given day.) I really enjoy our conjurer, Ethan Kaille, as he tries to solve yet another magical assault on the city of Boston, while mixing it up a bit with the likes of Samuel Adams and other names from history. I’ll be reviewing this one in detail later, for sure.

Bookin' It 
I am reading a few at once. “The Yanks Are Starving” (by Gerald Craney)which is about some of the black units in WW1, “Involution and Evolution”‘,(Joss Sheldon). another about and against war in general and written as a poem, mostly. And a mystery by Gerald and Kristopher Kubicki, “A Dubious Crime”.

I’m reading the New Yorker haha, AND Words Fail Me by Patricia T. O’Conner. I like her writing style. There are few books on writing that keep me interested after the first few pages, but I’m already on part 2 of Ms. O’Conner’s book and still interested. Whoo-hoo!

I love books on writing, Elizabeth. Definitely making a note of this one, thanks. And thanks, too, for your sympathy. I worked like crazy in the yard last weekend, and thought I was home free with just a few sore muscles. Then Tuesday, I bent over to pick up a plastic flower pot, and wham. Sciatic nerve went berserk, and I’ve been hobbling ever since. I think it will clear up on its own soon, but if not, I’ll bite the bullet and go see the doc. As they say, gettin’ old ain’t for sissies! 😉

LOL, I can’t believe we both ended-up with injuries while working in the yard the same week! I’d just finished mowing a 1/4 acre and was going round the fench with a big machete hacking off protruding limbs (fences) when I got my ankle caught in a gopher (grrrr) hole and sprained it really badly. Thanking God it wasn’t broken, but had my foot up all week and hobbling about with hubby’s help. Wit we like! hahaha 🙂

Oh, I’m so sorry to hear about your sprained ankle! That sounds really painful! Lucky for me, I’ve had a bit of this sciatica thing before, and it usually clears up on its own in a few days. Hope you feel better REAL soon.

Me, too. It was a good one, and not to be confused with the other Into The Woods I saw on amazon yesterday…eep. 😯 (That’s why I clarified, because I doubt seriously if Evelyn was talking about THAT one. 😀 )

I’m reading, “I’ll Drink To That”, by Betty Halbreich. It’s an eye-opening autobiography about a personal shopper at Bergdorf’s. I’m a jeans and t-shirt gal, so it’s a peek into a very different world.

I’m not a clothes/shopping kinda gal, either. I don’t own a dress or a pair of high heels, and live mostly in shorts and knit tops. That world would be foreign to me, as well, but it might be interesting to peek into it, as you say. Taking notes, as always. Thanks for commenting today. Always nice to see you here!

I have just finished the ARC – Light My Fire by G.A. Aiken. I have not laughed so much in a while. Now I am reading Grey Bishop by Kelly Meade.
