What Are You Reading?
I’m afraid I won’t have time in the morning to get my Friday What Are You Reading post done, so I’m popping in here to do that right now. I get more good book ideas from this post each week, so I don’t like to be too busy to ask you guys: What are YOU reading?
I’m about halfway through a short novella, I guess it would be, by Eileen Wilks, called Originally Human. It ties in with her World of the Lupi series, but so far, all the characters are new ones. However, they are currently on their way to see a very familiar character from the Lupi books, Cullen Seaborne, so there is going to be some sort of crossover stuff going on. I’m enjoying this story very much, and will be reviewing it when I finish.

What an absolutely adorable picture. They are gloriously beautiful.
I am reading He Walks Among Us by Richard and Renee Stearns. It is heartbreaking. They are a couple who serve the world’s poor and helpless (World Vision). In this book are the stories of the people they have encountered all over the world. The very first story had me in tears. It was of thirteen year old Richard in Afica whose parents had both died of aids. He had been carer to both of them, for probably years, and his two younger siblings. His parents were buried basically outside the front door of his makeshift hut of a home and so he passed them every time he went in or out of the hut. When asked what he wanted to be when he grew up he answered, a doctor, so I can heal the people of this disease.
It makes me cry everytime I think of it. How very sad that children should know such pain and loss.

Hi, Elizabeth! Sounds like a profoundly moving book. I’m making note of the title, though I have to say, I have great difficulty reading about bad things happening to children. But I’m glad you shared the story with us, and I hope it will remind us all to be thankful for our blessings this holiday season. Most of us have so much to be grateful for, but we need the occasional reminder to take a look around and be humble in our gratitude.

Right now I’m pretty far in Night Film by Marisha Pessl & very much enjoying the audiobook of Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls by David Sedaris. 🙂

Oh, Night Film has been on my To Be Read list a long time. I’m glad to know you are enjoying it. I might need to bump it up a bit higher on my list. I’ve also looked at Let’s Explore, too. Been meaning to check out Sedaris for some time. I reckon I’ll add that to the list, as well.

I finally got Republic of Thieves from the library, and am reading the second book in a Pride & Prejudice mystery spin-off called Suspense and Sensibility. The first book was cute, but this second is lagging a little. I’ll have to see how it goes.
The only reason I’m not farther into Locke’s adventures is that is not a purse portable-sized book.

Hi, Caitlin! Thanks for letting us hear from you. I noticed on GoodReads that you were reading something relating to Sense & Sensibility. I’m not up on Republic Of Thieves, though. I’ll have to check that out.
I finished a little book of short stories that didn’t turn out as well as I had hoped, so I might not even review it. Originally Human was pretty cool, though. I’ll try to review that one this week.
Going off to read about Republic of Thieves now.

I’m in the middle of trying to read a book that shall remain namelss. LOL It was sent to me by a publisher to review and I just can’t get into it. Ugh. Maybe it will get better, right????
In the mean time, a twitter pal reminded me of a series I love and we were talking about our favorites. Hers was a book called Taunting Krell(released in 2011). I don’t remember it very well, so I am going to go back and revisit it.

Oh, no. I’m sorry you are having trouble getting into the nameless book. That happens sometimes. Now and then, I find myself in the same spot, sometimes with books that are best sellers with rave reviews. It’s all subjective. Sometimes, it just doesn’t work for you. (And sometimes the book stinks, too, but that’s also subjective, I guess.)
I’m going to check out Taunting Krell. Sounds sci-fi? I don’t read a lot of sci-fi, but I do find things I like now and then, and I’m always open to a really good book, no matter the genre.
