Today is a milestone for Bookin’ It.  As of right now, there are 100 people following this blog.  Now in the Blogosphere, that’s not very many, but I’m thrilled.  I never set out to pull in thousands of readers.  In the same way that I like small towns better than big cities, Read more…

Quote #57 – E. L. Doctorow

“Writing a novel is like driving a car at night. You can only see as far as your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way.

A Kiss Before The Apocalypse by Thomas E. Sniegoski

Thomas E. Sniegoski's A Kiss Before Dying Cover

My Rating: 3 of 5 Stars

Well, what to say about this little book?  On the one hand, I liked that the hero of the book, Remy Chandler, was an angel on earth by choice, and not just one more  Urban Fantasy staple, an irresistible Fallen Angel.  And I liked the descriptions of Read more…

Currently Reading

After finally finishing Cold Days and Monster Hunters Legion, both fairly long books that I moved rather slowly on (due strictly to time constraints and not the fault of either book in any way), I am feeling like a couple of lighter, shorter reads are in order.  In one of my recent anthologies, Read more…

Cold Days by Jim Butcher (Finally Finished It!)

Jim Butcher's Cold Days Cover

My Rating: 5 of 5 Stars

Dang, Jim Butcher!  Take us on a ride, why doncha?  I finally found time amidst all that’s going on around here to finish Cold Days.  I read until 2:00am last night, determined not to stop until I knew how it all turned out.  Holy guacamole!  This book is what Cecil B. DeMille would write if he were an Urban Fantasy author instead of a long-deceased director of big-budget Hollywood spectacles from decades ago. Read more…

Wow! Another award! Tis the Season…

Blog of the Year Award 1 star jpeg

I am tickled to say that Misifusa of Misifusa’s Blog has nominated me for a new award.  Must be that Gift Giving Time of Year, when everyone feels generous and happy.  Whatever the reason, thank you so much, Misifusa.  I’m very pleased to receive your nomination, and folks, do stop by and check out her blog.  I’m a new visitor there, but I’ve been enjoying it very much.

Now as to the award.  This is slightly different from the others as you can add extra stars to it every time someone nominates you for it.  That’s a fun variation.  Here are the rules, as explained by the creator of the award. Be sure to check below the rules, where I have added my nominations for other bloggers, as well.   Read more…

Vintage Santas on Mantel

My Handpainted and Vintage Santas (part of a more extensive collection)

Finally stopped the backbreaking work of cleaning up from the Great Oak Tree Disaster long enough to put up some of my Christmas things.  No way I’ll get it all up this year, since it normally takes me the better part of two weeks to display everything Read more…

Question for WordPress Bloggers

Since the system for uploading pictures changed recently, I find I can’t avoid having a slide show on posts where I have multiple photos.  In other words, Read more…

Quote #56 – Ursula LeGuin

“The story is not in the plot but in the telling.
     –Ursula K. LeGuin

(Truer words were never spoken!)

Quote #55 – Alfred Hitchcock

“Drama is life with the dull bits cut out.
     –Alfred Hitchcock

Quote #54 – Mark Twain

427px-Mark_Twain_by_AF_Bradley

“The test of any good fiction is that you should care something for the characters; the good to succeed, the bad to fail. The trouble with most fiction is that you want them all to land in hell, together, as quickly as possible.”
     –Mark Twain

(Certainly BAD fiction makes me feel just that way.)

Cold Days is Giving Me Cold Feet!

Ack.  Have you ever been so involved in a book that you were almost afraid to turn the page?  That’s how I’m feeling about Jim Butcher’s latest in the Dresden Files series, Cold Days.  The suspense is killing me, and I keep finding Read more…
