Blog Sharing On Self-Publishing

In my Real Life, such as it is, I don’t know a single person who is currently writing a book, who plans to write a book, who has ever written a book in the past, or who even dreams of writing a book someday.  Man, do I hang out with boring people, or what?  Not really…they are mostly just busy living their lives and not into the thought of spending untold hours hunched over their computers, sweating blood over the merits of using the word “red” versus the word “crimson.” Thus, no writers in my immediate circle of friends and family.  But here on WordPress, there are tons of aspiring writers, published writers, struggling writers, and successful writers.  That’s one of the best things I’ve discovered in the five months I’ve been part of this community.

It stands to reason there would be a plethora of writers here, though.  Obviously, anyone who maintains a busy blog must enjoy writing at least to some extent.  Why would they spend time blogging, otherwise?  So I can’t say I’m completely surprised that there are so many authors and wannabe authors here.  But what often does surprise me is how supportive most of these writers are of each other, freely offering advice, tips, and encouragement.  It has been very inspiring to me, and I’m sure very helpful to many other new writers, as well.

In that spirit of sharing blogs that might be of interest to writers of all sorts, I’m passing along a post I read this morning on a blog I have mentioned here before.  Cristian Mihai maintains a very interesting blog on writing himself, and has also started a new venture that sounds pretty intriguing as well.  (Irevuo). Today, he has shared five links for writers who want to learn more about self-publishing, and even after giving them just a cursory look-see before running off to do some errands, I can tell they are well worth a visit, and probably blogs I will want to follow.  I’m passing them along for others to enjoy, too.  (Don’t forget to click on “read more on irevuo.com” to see all of the article).

When you’ve checked these blogs out, you might return to Cristian’s site and take some time looking around there, as well.  I think  you’d enjoy it.Thank you for sharing these blogs, Cristian.  I went straight to amazon.com and bought David Gaughran’s Let’s Get Digital, and am looking forward to reading it.

Now you know someone, I have decided to write a book although I am not sure where it will lead. It is not for fame or fortune or even to write the great American novel, but for a place for me to sort my thoughts and to find that special path that will keep me moving forward to a relationship with Christ. It will be a cleansing of sorts and in the process I hope to restore a part of me that I thought was long gone. There I said it – and it was not as scary as I thought! 🙂

    • Congratulations, Patty! I’m glad you have decided to write a book, and I wish you the best of luck with it. I am enjoying working on mine more than anything I’ve done in years. It makes me feel good to finally be doing what I knew from the age of five that I always wanted to do. Don’t know for sure if I’ll try to publish it when I’m done, but I’m leaning that way right now. Mine isn’t anything so really special as what you are planning, though…just a romance novel, basically, with a bit of a ghostly element…but I think the very act of writing is, as you say, a sort of cleansing thing. I hope you are happy with the way your book turns out, and I’ll be interested in your progress. Keep me posted!

Thank you for your support. Your book sounds good, there is nothing like a good romance with a little bit of a ghostly element in it! I have an idea in my mind on a historical fiction book too, based on my mothers life during WWII in Europe. I feel like Jo in Little Women, I have so many stories in my head right now, I just need to learn how to get them out!! 🙂 I will look forward to hearing about your publishing date – and will reserve a space in my bookshelves!

  2. Aww, how nice! We can be each others fans! That’s assuming I ever FINISH my book, of course. But isn’t the fun in the actual writing? I’m finding it so fulfilling, no matter what I end up doing with it.
