So Many Books. So Little Time. Let's Review!

Archive for the month “October, 2012”

Quote # 35 – Janet Evanovich

“Is that a bulletproof vest? See, now that’s so insulting. That’s like saying I’m not smart enough to shoot you in the head.”

  – Janet Evanovich, Eddie DeChooch in Seven Up (Stephanie Plum, No. 7)

Pet Peeve #3 – The One About Political Intrusion

So far my pet peeves have been over fairly trivial things, but this is one I’m pretty serious about.  It can make me abandon not only a book, but an entire series, and often anything else written by that author.  What can it be, you ask?  Read more…

Vampire Empire: The Kingmakers by Clay & Susan Griffith

Clay & Susan Griffith's Vampire Empire: The Kingmakers Cover

My Rating: 3-1/2 of 5 Stars

The Kingmakers is the 3rd and final installment of the Vampire Empire trilogy.  I have read many glowing, nearly rhapsodic, reviews of this book, but for me, it was definitely the weakest of the three.  I really enjoyed the first book, The Greyfriar, Vampire Empire Book 1.  It was my first introduction into a steam punk world of Read more…

Quote #34 – Oscar Wilde

“Anybody can sympathize with the sufferings of a friend, but it requires a very fine nature to sympathize with a friend’s success.”

     – Oscar Wilde

The New Paperwhite Kindle

For those considering an e-reader, or wanting to upgrade to a Kindle that doesn’t need a light, but not wanting to go to the back-lit, harder-on-the-eyes  Kindle Fire, there’s a new game in town.  While I love browsing on devices like Read more…

Quote #33- Fyodor Dostoyevsky

“Only the heart knows how to find what is precious.”

If anyone knows the name of this little poem, please share it with us.  Thanks!  Hope you enjoy it!

The fields are harvested and bare,
And winter whistles through the square.
October dresses in flame and gold,
Like a woman afraid of growing old.

Now the autumn days are gone
Frost is sparkling on the lawn.
Windows winking cheerful lights
Warm the cold November nights.

Simple Abundance by Sarah Ban Breathnach

Sarah Ban Breathnach's Simple Abundance Cover

My Rating: 4 of 5 Stars

Simple Abundance is a book of essays written from a woman’s perspective.  There is one for every day of the year.  My best friend gave me a copy of the book last Christmas, and I have developed a ritual of Read more…
