V Is For Vengeance – Sue Grafton
MY RATING: 4 of 5 Stars
I think of Sue Grafton’s Alphabet series as being very like a bowl of oatmeal…nothing fancy, but it will stick to your ribs and make you feel as cozy as a pair of comfortable flannel pajamas and fuzzy slippers. As always, “V Is For Vengeance” is a satisfying Kinsey Milhone tale. I actually think this might be the best book in the series. Grafton’s writing, always solid and entertaining, has improved dramatically over the years, and it shows in her approach to this story.
Personally, I really enjoyed the decision to switch between several different points of view, and feel it added to the complexity of the tale. I don’t think these books are meant to be deeply thought provoking, but they are quick, fun reads, well done for light mystery, and I look forward to each of them. I think this one shows that Sue Grafton is ready to move on to stand-alone novels with a bit more meat on the bone when she wraps up the Alphabet books. (Presumably with Z Is For…Zinger? Zest? Zombies? Zebras?)
If you like her earlier books, you’ll enjoy V Is For Vengeance.
